Since 1985, Mile Zero Dance has doing outreach in schools to provide students with hands-on contemporary dance experiences. Mile Zero Dance programs are designed to awaken the creative imagination and to encourage self-expression of the body. We offer a variety of dance education experiences suited to the specific requirements of schools, varying from one-day workshops to two-week residencies.

Company Performance
This fun-filled 45-minute lecture demonstration is a wonderful way to kick-off a residency. Children leave this presentation dancing, and are prepared to learn more.

Creative Movement Classes
Our Creative Movement workshops encourage student creativity and promote self-motivation. Students develop movement skills and confidence while learning to express their ideas through dance.
Mile Zero Dance also offers specialized instruction in Contact Improvisation. This form involves developing new ways of partnering using gravity and touch to build sensory awareness. Contact Improvisation is highly successful in groups with varying ability and mobility.

Student Performance
Students participate in a dress rehearsal and perform their dances for the student body and/or their parents. This is an exciting way to share their creations with the entire school community.
Creative Movement Classes and Company Performances are available on an individual basis.

Partial financial assistance for residency costs is available to schools through The Alberta Foundation for the Arts. The application deadline is April 1st.
