Edmonton-based Mile Zero Dance Society (MZD) is devoted to cultivating contemporary dance by focussing on three core areas: research/development, training/mentorship, and performance/production.
Incorporated in 1985, Mile Zero Dance is a mainstay in the Edmonton arts community, playing an active role in interdisciplinary collaborations and audience development. As a member-driven, artist-run organization, Mile Zero Dance has become a voice for a generation of artists and audience members alike who are interested in merging dance with different art forms through artistic innovation and research.
Mile Zero Dance consistently produces a full and varied independent season, including mainstage performance, a community salon series, site specific pieces, workshops, a Dance Lab, and school residencies.
In 2008, Mile Zero Dance performed in both Turkey and Japan.
Mile Zero Dance has been honoured with the Syncrude Award for Excellence in Artistic Direction (Gerry Morita 2006), the Edmonton Salute to Excellence in Performance (2005) and showcases at Alberta Scene. |
